Maker Quarterly

Materials are an emotional filter. Through texture, color and form, they reveal how we should feel about what we see and read. 

Issue No. 14 of the Mohawk Maker Quarterly is titled Lead & Serve and celebrates those who pave the way by helping others find their paths.

Each issue of the Mohawk Maker Quarterly relies on a single word for its creative framework. In issue thirteen, that word is “disruption.” 

We tend to romanticize the mythology of the solo creative genius. However, humanity’s greatest achievements have happened when people—two or two thousand—worked together.

The process of making something — method, materials, ingredients, artistry, experience — is the squiggly line between idea and object. In issue 11 of the Mohawk Maker Quarterly, we celebrate makers who take conscious paths to get from Point A to Point B.

Beauty isn’t a superficial aesthetic trait; it inspires, moves and engages us. It triggers emotion. It attracts. It gives pleasure. 

After two years of publication, the ninth issue of the Mohawk Maker Quarterly has been refreshed and redesigned, serendipitously themed around the concept of inspiration.

Issue eight of the Mohawk Maker Quarterly tackles the topic of “feel,” exploring how experiences, environments, and objects invoke this nuanced word.

According to Dora Drimalas, Principal of Hybrid Design,  “We all have our own character, that special force driving us, guiding everything we do. To listen to it is to gain insight into what makes us unique—and it isn’t always easy.”

Mohawk Maker Quarterly issue No. 06 explores the concept of impressions and how, whether tangible or abstract, our reality is formed by the impressions we make and take.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary broadly defines perception as, “the way that you notice or understand something using one of your senses.” Issue #5 of the Mohawk Maker Quarterly explores the influence of art and design on perception.

We’re more successful when we share knowledge, resources and information than by going it alone. Partnerships are important, and humans crave interconnectivity and sharing. By connecting with our peers and seeking collaboration, we create new opportunities for growth and learning.

Craftsmanship and attention to detail define excellence in any discipline. The third issues of the Mohawk Maker Quarterly and the Mohawk Craft Cooperative focus on the importance of the details, one of Mohawk’s core business beliefs.

We know when we encounter well-made things. They taste better, last longer, look more beautiful and feel good in our hands. To put it simply, materials matter.

In a technological era punctuated with e-mail, smart phones, tablets and texts, Mohawk believes that a new maker culture is emerging. Mohawk is supporting this community of like-minded makers with the introduction of The Mohawk Maker Quarterly.
